iMovie Trailers: The Forces of Good and Evil

star wars

I’ve seen iMovie around for quite a while, but I’ve never given it any attention. Creating a trailer for a movie is easy because they give you several templates to work with. I started with the idea of using the “forces” of good and evil and showing some physics-y stuff with it, but that got a little difficult trying to find the right photos or videos for that, so I just stuck with something that was fun. I chose a Star Wars theme just for the novelty of it. They can use the “force” to battle each other. You can see my video here or below.

Week 3 Reflection: Ditch That Textbook

Ditch That Textbook is a blog run by none other than Matt Miller, a high school spanish teacher in West Central Indiana who was tired of using textbooks to teach his classes. He decided to produce custom lessons for his classes, rather than rely on the textbooks. He infuses his lessons with technology to create a unique learning experience for his students.

The blog is pretty neat. It is well organized and concise until you want to read more, and then it opens up into a great story. His unique perspective on education is inspiring and he shares about different apps or about ways to teach without a textbook. In one particular post, he shares about 9 new education podcasts that he’s been interested in for the summer. Matt is also a guy that likes to travel and speak about teaching without textbooks. He’ll even travel to your school!

If you have any desire to teach away from the textbook, using your own experiences and professionalism, look at Matt’s blog. It could be the most productive thing you’ve done this week.

My First Tellagami Project

Tellagami is an app that allows the user to create a digital person and share audio or text. The app is very easy to use and even comes with its own tutorial! I looked through several, but this one is the most helpful, and it’s right there! The app has two versions: a free version with limited possibilities and a $4.99 version to purchase if you want full access.

You can see my tellagami here. I used it to tell my class hello and welcome them digitally. This app could be useful to help students communicate with each other. You can find some uses here, at freetech4teachers.com. They suggest using it for having a certain person in history tell his biography, or use it to have someone explain a biology picture of some sort. The uses are endless.

If you’re interested, you can purchase this on the app store. I linked you the free version.
